True Blood Is Back! A Preview of Season 6
When summertime rolls around, there’s only one thing on the mind of many vampire lovers all over the world: True Blood’s back. The supernatural drama is set to return on HBO on June 16th, and I think it’s safe to say that all the fans out there have a lot of questions they need to have answered. First and foremost, what the heck is going on with Billith!?
When the series ended last season, Alcide killed J.D., taking over as pack master, and Eric had swooped in to save the day by killing off Russell Edgington and saving all of the faeries. Upon this defeat, the band of supernaturals and humans (including Nora, Tara, Sookie, Jason, and Eric) head off to try and conquer the Authority. They seemingly do see, freeing Pam and Jessica. Eric and Sookie leave the rest of the gang, going to find Bill. But, before they can get to him, he ingests Lilith’s blood, explodes, and reemerges in a freaky, Lilith-like form.
So, now that we’ve recapped, what should we expect from season six of True Blood? I think the main thing that fans of the show expect to see is what will happen to Bill now that he’s gone super-vampire crazy. Though I thought that turn of events was completely unexpected and unbelievable almost, I guess it’s safe to say that Bill is officially on the bad side. Will Sookie, Eric, and maybe even Jessica be able to bring him back? Let’s hope so. Of course, on the other end of the spectrum, it’s going to be interesting to see how Alcide handles his new role as pack master.
And we can’t forget about Andy Bellefleur and his new triplet faerie babies, Tara and Pam’s apparent love connection, or the happy family of Sam, Luna, and Emma. And I almost forgot! What about Warlow!? Who is he? And what type of creature is he? Guess the only thing we can do is wait and see…though it appears a full out war between vampires and humans is one of the few things we can actually expect to see before the season actually begins.
Now that we’ve discussed what we are looking forward to with the new season, what kind of rumors have been going around about the plot? If you don’t want to know, I suggest you skip over this paragraph and go onto the next! Now that that’s all said and done with, the most shocking possibility that I’ve come across (and frankly the only one worth mentioning) is that a major character is going to end up dead before the season is through. The worst part? It’s speculated that this character is going to be Eric Northman, the beloved, sexy vampire.
Apparently he shall meet the true death, but let’s agree that this better not happen. While I hope and hope and hope that this isn’t true, the rumor has unfortunately been spreading. But, alas, a rumor is called that for a reason, so we shall have to wait and see in order to find out the truth!
Since we have anticipated what to expect and what we hope happens this season, there is a downside that must be brought up. True Blood usually runs for 12 episodes a season, but this time around, there will only be 10. Why? According to the staff of the show, this was partly done to accommodate Anna Paquin’s pregnancy. Other reports admit that it also occurred as a result of economic issues. Will 10 episodes instead of 12 make a difference?
The short answer is: it might. With a show that’s so jam packed with different plot lines and cast members, it’s already hard enough to pack an entire season into 12 episodes. Hopefully they didn’t have to cut out important stuff that would make the plot more intriguing and exciting. And, in the long run, let’s hope that these economic issues aren’t implying that True Blood is doing poorly.
True Blood always brings exciting twists and turns to the television screen, and it appears that this season will be no different. With the same stellar cast as usual, let’s hope that the shortened season doesn’t result in any loss of content or thrills. And, with two less episodes of shirtless, sexy Alcide and Eric, perhaps that shall make that a more regular occurrence in the ten that we are blessed with. As mentioned above, True Blood Season Six returns to HBO on June 16th. For a sneak peek of what we have to look forward to, the official trailer can be seen here:
